Evaluation Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Me and my group decided what distribution companies we wanted to distribute our filmed based on the sub genre we chose and the budget we went for. Since we were doing a High School drama, from research we found that High school dramas tend to be very successful and well known they also tend have mainstream distribution companies. From this finding we had an idea of what production and distribution companies we were going to use.
For our High school drama we decided to use Atlantis Alliance as our production company and use Icon pictures as the distribution company. Both these companies are quite major and so hat's why we chose them We wanted our film to attract more than a niche audience since that;'s what the conventional High school drama tends to do.
Alliance Atlamtis have produced well known tv shows such as CSI and have also distributed well known films such as Rush Hour 2, Spy kids and Scary movie 2. We though they would be suitable for our movie niche we wanted to attract a wider audience but at the same time we didn't have a big enough budget to make a Company like Disney Pictures produce or distribute it. Alliance Atlantis is quite popular and so that was perfect for us since we couldn't make as big as Disney produced film but still use a known production company.
Icon Productions is more of an Independent distribution company, they've distributed well known films such as 12 years a slave this was the distribution company for Australia. Icon Productions distribute films in America, Australia and the UK. Me and the group felt this would suit our film because of our budget, we wanted our film to attract more than niche audience but not a global audience and so I think Icon productions would be best for the aim we are going for.
Our production company meant that we could include almost most of the conventional titles you would expect to see in a high school opening. Since it's quite a well known company we were able to also make the titles themselves look more creative. We were mainly influenced by mean girls with the design of our titles and so with having them as a production company we were able to get our
design the way we wanted it.

Around Angel, Islington. We wanted to stay local as it would make it easier to get through more shots |

Changes to costume
we changed the costume of our popular girl since she is from a poor background we thought her previous outfit was too 'glammed' up and so changed her outfit to something that still makes it clear shes popular but also hides that shes poor.
Below is the new outfit used.

6(extra)screen shot examples of title types
This is titles over animated or motion images. This is a very effective way of grabbing the audiences attention without also giving away too much of the story line |
Here is an example of a title on a blank screen You can see how plain it is but is yet until this day very popular. |
This is a title over a still image You can say this is quite similar to titles over moving images but this can be seen as very effective and creative with what can be created using still images instead of moving |

37-blog brand
We decided to change our display page of blogs to suit the
production of our movie more. It's a high school drama, based on two female teenage characters
hence why we decided to make the main colour pink. Linking to the use of the colour pink, for our title sequence we intend
on using pink for the colour of our Title texts to establish that it's a female
based high school drama and not a youth drama. One other reason why we used pink is because of
one of our main characters (Jessica). She pretends to be that lead popular girl in her clique that
always seems to love the colour pink, this was inspired by mean girls. Overall the colour pink reflects the story line of our
end up forming a friendship.movie and that is mainly why we chose it. Adding blue to the text colour was a 'lighter' also can be seen as another 'girly' colour to add in. Another reason for the use of blue is our 'geeky' characer is seen as different from the average teen or popular girl and so the choice of blue relates to the story line of both our main characters showing major differences but in some way |

Our Last Changes
Final Changes
Originally Walt Disney were going to be our production company but due to the outcome of our movie. We personally thought it didn't look so much of an Disney Production movie and so changed the production company to Alliance Atlantis a lower budgeted production company. Alliance Atlantis was a Toronto-based Canadian-American media company that operated primarily as a specialty service operator in Canada. Alliance Atlantis also had offices in Halifax, Los Angeles, London, Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona and Sydney.

Sound for the opening sequence
Sound
Creating sound for our opening sequence has been one of our greatest difficulties. This is since we want the sound to represent the mood of our characters without changing the music all the time and so that's what we are finding hard doing.
Although this is difficult we've enjoyed experimenting with the types of sound you can make with all the different instruments. This can be seen in the images below of us finding our base sound and adding sound on top to see if it will match and build up the music.
I think it will be better to use queen free music for our opening sequence since we are finding it very hard to create our own and also since we are starting to run out of time
On the other hand we've been looking for royalty free sound music that we can use. We mainly used soundcloud to do this.

Pictures from 3rd filming session
one of our best shots filming our main character from an estate balcony |
Our over the shoulder shot |
Trying to achieve a match on match shot of our character coming down the estate staircase |
Reflection from 2nd filming session
In our second filming session. We moved on to one of our very important scenes which was basically showing our popular teen character that pretends to be wealthy is actually not. In this session w aimed to establish where she really lives and how she decepts her everyday life. We wanted to show how she lies to her friends at college but the audience are in on the secret and in this scene that's where it becomes clear. W filmed outside an Estate in angel Islington and at a local bus stop where the estate was.
What went well
In the background is the estate we used to
establish where this character
really lives. |
In this session although the weather was very cold it didn't prevent us from filming where as in our first session a lot of time was wasted due to rain and so we had to wait until that stopped before we started filming. This allowed us more time to film and so we didn't feel rushed, another thong that went well was that we were able to shot in all our designated locations which meant not a lot of time was wasted on finding the locations we desired to film at. One other important thing that went well was the use of the tripod. We learnt that using the wheel to film was not really effective for the type of shots we were using and so we learnt that using the tripod was so much better and are shorts were a lot more clearer and stable. We plan to carry on using that for the rest of our production.
Problems we had
When the shots we filmed were viewed the feedback we got back were that most our shots were badly framed for example a lot of our shots included a lot of head space which was incorrect and so this made things look very unprofessional.
Next filming session
in our next filming session we are going to have to re film this scene due to how bad our shots were framed. In advance we've been shown how to correctly framed our shots so we can get it right in our future shots

Rough Cut feedback and Next Steps
Rough Cut Feedback
-The storyline isn't clear from what is shown.
-Too much camera movement.
-Some match cuts need work for example some bits jump
-Straighten up some shots
-We need to add in more bits to illustrate how poor Amy's character really is.
