Evaluation Question 1.
Evaluation Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Me and my group decided what distribution companies we wanted to distribute our filmed based on the sub genre we chose and the budget we went for. Since we were doing a High School drama, from research we found that High school dramas tend to be very successful and well known they also tend have mainstream distribution companies. From this finding we had an idea of what production and distribution companies we were going to use.
For our High school drama we decided to use Atlantis Alliance as our production company and use Icon pictures as the distribution company. Both these companies are quite major and so hat's why we chose them We wanted our film to attract more than a niche audience since that;'s what the conventional High school drama tends to do.
Alliance Atlamtis have produced well known tv shows such as CSI and have also distributed well known films such as Rush Hour 2, Spy kids and Scary movie 2. We though they would be suitable for our movie niche we wanted to attract a wider audience but at the same time we didn't have a big enough budget to make a Company like Disney Pictures produce or distribute it. Alliance Atlantis is quite popular and so that was perfect for us since we couldn't make as big as Disney produced film but still use a known production company.
Icon Productions is more of an Independent distribution company, they've distributed well known films such as 12 years a slave this was the distribution company for Australia. Icon Productions distribute films in America, Australia and the UK. Me and the group felt this would suit our film because of our budget, we wanted our film to attract more than niche audience but not a global audience and so I think Icon productions would be best for the aim we are going for.
Our production company meant that we could include almost most of the conventional titles you would expect to see in a high school opening. Since it's quite a well known company we were able to also make the titles themselves look more creative. We were mainly influenced by mean girls with the design of our titles and so with having them as a production company we were able to get our
design the way we wanted it.
Evaluation Question 4.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Target Audience- is a particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed.
There is a large number of people who watch teen films. Teenagers watch teen films as, most of the time, they can relate to the social issues which occur in these movies, as they're everyday issues teens could face. These issues could be the hierarchy of social groups within school, rivalry or conflict between groups. Teen films tend to have characters which are binary oppositions, ensuring that a wide range of teens can relate. Adults may watch teen films because they feel it could remind them of their youth, as well as contrasting how life as a teenager has changed.
Our Ideal target audience would be a female, with the interest of hanging out with their friends, shopping, gossiping with their friends, and are in the same age range of the teenagers that are in most teen films, so the age of 16-18. They would represent 'the typical girly girl', who also likes watching teen films, especially high school dramas.
Our sub genre is high school drama, targeted at teenagers and young adults. Most teen films, especially high school dramas, are about teenagers and their problems, ''coming of age''. This can teach the audience as well as interest them on important things about adolescents, sexuality, love, society, relationships, life. The relatable concept allows our target audience to connect.
Through the use of social media, we were able to reach a mass audience of teenagers who tend to spend most of their time on these sites. For example, we have a twitter page aimed at those who use this website which tend to be teenagers and young adults up to the age of 30. This is the perfect way to reach our target audience as well as interest of some adults. When people follow us, retweet and/or favourite us, it will then show up on their timeline, so their friends will be able to see it, interesting them and so on. This will increase awareness of our film .

Research- Its a boy girl thing
The next door neighbours Nell Bedworth and Woody Deane have opposite behaviours and hate each other: the virgin geek Nell is polite, sensitive and well-prepared to go to Yale, while Woody is rude and his greatest expectation is to join a mediocre university due to his abilities playing football. When Nell and Woody are assigned to visit a museum together, they argue in front of a statue of an Aztec god. During the night, their souls swap bodies, bringing difficult situations to them. They first try to damage each other's reputation in high school, but soon they discover that their dream of joining college can only happen with mutual respect and support.

Main Character- Jessica
For our film 'Between the Two' we wanted to maintain the classic stereotype, we also wanted to add a twist to the stereotype.
The character Jessica from 'Between the Two' is played by Amy O'Brennan
We wanted to represent her in the typical stereotype of a popular girl, often rude to people and has a lot of friends. This then started to get difficult as we wanted her to keep the secret that she isn't as prefect as everyone at her school thinks she is. Really Jessica is actually going through some troubles at home, she is getting evicted and her family don't have any money. We wanted the audience to know the difficulties Jessica has to face, this is also so the audience could understand why she is affair to let anyone know she is poor.
Characters from famous teen dramas that helped us create Amy's character:
Woody from 'Its a Boy Girl Thing'
Regina George from 'Mean Girls'
Poppy Moore from 'Wild Child'

Changes to costume
we changed the costume of our popular girl since she is from a poor background we thought her previous outfit was too 'glammed' up and so changed her outfit to something that still makes it clear shes popular but also hides that shes poor.
Below is the new outfit used.

Overcoming Difficulties- Last Editing Session
- We needed to complete all tasks to the best standards, but we were on a limited time schedule, as we were working to the deadline, and we still had to complete both title credits and sound.
- We had to change the title sequence colour, the original shade of light pink was not visible on a light background. We then changed the colour to a darker pink, so it would show up better.
- After feedback on our titles, we realised that in order to stick to the conventions of a high school drama, we couldn't place the title of the film as the end. We had to move the title of the film from the end to the middle as it looked like a trailer.
- Sound was difficult because we could find the right sound we wanted to compliment the mood of the character, but also stick to conventions of the up beat sound in high school dramas. We then decided that to save time we would use sound cloud to create our song, but it turned out that Sound Cloud had temporarily been blocked for download. It was a major setback, but we were able to find two instrumentals that complimented each other, sounding similar to moment for life and love yourz, which we then dragged into garage band to add our foley sounds.
- We transferred the sound to garage band and then we had to transfer it to final cut pro after we finished editing it. We then realized some titles weren't in frame so we went through them all in place.
6(extra)screen shot examples of title types
This is titles over animated or motion images. This is a very effective way of grabbing the audiences attention without also giving away too much of the story line |
Here is an example of a title on a blank screen You can see how plain it is but is yet until this day very popular. |
This is a title over a still image You can say this is quite similar to titles over moving images but this can be seen as very effective and creative with what can be created using still images instead of moving |
Here is a link to this title sequence to show what titles over moving images looks like. http://youtu.be/4No2ZhJwVGU |
