Powered by emaze

Evaluation Question 2.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Evaluation Question 3.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Evaluation Question 4.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Target Audience- is a particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed.

There is a large number of people who watch teen films. Teenagers watch teen films as, most of the time, they can relate to the social issues which occur in these movies, as they're everyday issues teens could face. These issues could be the  hierarchy of social groups within school, rivalry or conflict between groups. Teen films tend to have characters which are binary oppositions, ensuring that a wide range of teens can relate. Adults may watch teen films because they feel it could remind them of their youth, as well as contrasting how life as a teenager has changed.

Our Ideal target audience would be a female, with the interest of hanging out with their friends, shopping, gossiping with their friends, and are in the same age range of the teenagers that are in most teen films, so the age of 16-18. They would represent 'the typical girly girl', who also likes watching teen films, especially high school dramas.

Our sub genre is high school drama, targeted at teenagers and young adults. Most teen films, especially high school dramas, are about teenagers and their problems, ''coming of age''. This can teach the audience as well as interest them on important things about adolescents, sexuality, love, society, relationships, life. The relatable concept allows our target audience to connect.

Through the use of social media, we were able to reach a mass audience of teenagers who tend to spend most of their time on these sites. For example, we have a twitter page aimed at those who use this website which tend to be teenagers and young adults up to the age of 30. This is the perfect way to reach our target audience as well as interest of some adults. When people follow us, retweet and/or favourite us, it will then show up on their timeline, so their friends will be able to see it, interesting them and so on. This will increase awareness of our film .

Overcoming Difficulties- Last Editing Session

  • We needed to complete all tasks to the best standards, but we were on a limited time schedule, as we were working to the deadline, and we still had to complete both title credits and sound.
  • We had to change the title sequence colour, the original shade of light pink was not visible on a light background. We then changed the colour to a  darker pink, so it would show up better.
  • After feedback on our titles, we realised that in order to stick to the conventions of a high school drama, we couldn't place the title of the film as the end. We had to move the title of the film from the end to the middle as it looked like a trailer.
  • Sound was difficult because we could find the right sound we wanted to compliment the mood of the character, but also stick to conventions of the up beat sound in high school dramas. We then decided that to save time we would use sound cloud to create our song, but it turned out that Sound Cloud had temporarily been blocked for download. It was a major setback, but we were able to find two instrumentals that complimented each other, sounding similar to moment for life and love yourz, which we then dragged into garage band to add our foley sounds.
  • We transferred the sound to garage band and then we had to transfer it to final cut pro after we finished editing it. We then realized some titles weren't in frame so we went through them all in place.

Target Audience Video Survey

I tried uploading the videos, of a few people I interviewed regarding target audience research. The questions asked where;

  • What is your name and age?
  • What are you favourite high school drama and/or youth drama?
  • What codes and conventions of the teen film do you like?
  • Why do you like the films you have selected?
E.g 1.
Lady Pearl, 16
Favourite films are, Anuvahood because she likes the comedy aspect of the film, and the way they present the stereotypes comically in the film and show different youth groups. She also really liked mean girls because she found it interesting, and liked the way they contrasted the social groups.

E.g 2.
Imaani, 16
Favourite Films are Cinderella Story and Confessions of a teenage drama queen. She liked the way they were realistic and modernised, she felt they were realistic and could identify  lot with them.

Mise en Scene- Location

Here are the final locations we used, in our opening sequence. Originally we were going to use two bedroom scenes, in which we were going to film in two different bedrooms to show the contrast between the characters lives. Instead we decided to add a few different scenes, so our location Mise en Scene changed. All our locations were around Angel, because we were quite far behind in filming and editing, as we had to re film loads of scenes, we decided to use somewhere local and that we could shoot everything, to save time.

Around Angel, Islington

Around Angel, Islington.

We have several scenes surrounding a bus stop, because we tried to show contrast between all scenes with both character .E.g we would show a scene with one character getting the bus and why, and reflect their social economic background through this mise en scene, the do the same for the other character.

This is outside, City and Islington College, we ended filming outside rather that inside for our final idea because, when we had to re film those scenes that had bad framing, we had to do it during the holidays and weekend and the school gates were closed, so we had to use dialogue to show that their going to college.

We had to ask permission, but we filmed getting on and off a bus to make it seem more realistic.
we were going to shoot in Oxfam at first, but they wouldn't allow us, so we ended up using cancer research for one of our main locations, which we used to establish the social and economic background of one of the characters.
Along the high road of Angel Islington, and around Angel

At a bus stop.

Research

Alliance Atlantis
All of the former Alliance Atlantis specialty networks are now owned by Shaw Communications through its Shaw Media Division (formerly CW Media) as of October 27, 2010.[ The films division was later acquired by Entertainment One group and folded into eOne on January 9, 2013.
They have partnered with Lionsgate, Summit Entertainment, Focus Features and Lakeshore Entertainment, who all have produced a number of teen films.

Teen films that have been produced by Alliance Atlantis:
This is a film based primarily on social groups. The main character has fallen into a social group called 'The Duff' and doesn't want to be restricted or labelled in a social group.

Target Audience

Target Audience:
A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message. In marketing and advertising, it is a specific group of people within the target market at which a product or the marketing message of a product is aimed
A target audience can be formed of people of a certain age group, gender, marital status etc., e.g. teenagers, females, single people, etc.

Target Audience Research:
Here are a few interviews on their favourite teen movies and what they like about them. From my interview research and surveys, I've learnt that females prefer high school dramas compared to males that prefer youth dramas, especially males from urban areas, aged between 12-17 who find them more relatable.

I also constructed a survey; I used whatsapp, twitter and email asking people to complete my survey on target research. This is my survey that I created: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/V956DRF

19. Summarise how to create sound tracks in GarageBand

Learning how to use Garage Band;

  • When opening garage band, it will come, asking you to name your new project from template, which you can choose to rename later.
  • You should then be left with a blank Garage Band project:

  • You can then click the view/hide loop browser button, so that you can choose instruments and certain loops to create a song.

  • There will be a list of different instruments, genres, and other options to characterise and simplify the sound search outcome. To listen to the instrument/ sound you need to click ones, but once you find the sound you want you can drag it out to the centre of the screen. it will then automatically set itself in timeline.
  • You can use file and click import, if you need to import clip or video, or you could drag it straight in.
  • You can add Foley sounds, which are sound effects for example; a door slamming, a bell, someone being punch. You drag the Foley sounds in the same way you drag the instrument sounds.
  • You can hover the curser of any end to cut sound or expand it to stretch further across timeline.
  • You can copy any music/instrument and paste it to create longer songs more quickly.
  • To overlap the sounds, you can drag the sound underneath first sound into next line, and so on.
  • At any time you can hit the play button or space bar.

Order Of Our Title Credits plan

In order to stick to the high school drama conventions for titles credits we couldn't use our original idea and end with the title of our film, so we decided to set our credits in this order.
  • Alliance Atlantis Motion pictures Productions (Production Company)
  • Icon Productions (Distribution Company)
  • Alliance Atlantis Production Presents (Production Company Presents)
  • Icon Productions Presents (Distribution Company Presents)
  • Between the Two (Title of Film which we put in-between the two starring actors)
  • Main actors (Amy O'Brennen and Jessica Meulders)
  • Casting By
  • Music Supervisor
  • Music By
  • Edited By
  • Production Designer
  • Director of Photography
  • Executive Producers
  • Written By
  • Directed By
Although we used most of these title credits in our title sequence, quite a lot of high school dramas didn't have a title sequence in their opening, and the only credits they usually had was the title of the film, production company and a two actors if they're well know in the industry.

What Changes We've Made

We originally decided to use Walt Disney for the production company to produce our film, but then decided against this after re-shooting, cutting and adding scenes. We then decided to use Alliance Atlantis Productions.

We decided to use Alliance Atlantis Productions, because they have produced a number of teen films, both of high school and youth drama sub genres, such as 'The Duff' which focuses on social groups and not wanting to be labelled and restricted under social status, as well as 'It's a boy girl thing' which is about two teenagers from two backgrounds, one being rich but not being popular, quite reserved and concerned about college applications, and the other comes from a lower class background probably not being afford to go to college, but is at the top of a the social ladder as he is a 'jock' giving him a lot of popularity. In the film you see them have a lot of conflict, and they eventually switch bodies, allowing to live and experience each others social-economic background. This films style and storyline inspired our own film. Alliance Atlantis films mostly share the same target audience as us, whereas Walt Disney aim at a more younger demographic, the ages twelve and under. Alliance Atlantis also have partnered with Lionsgate, Summit Entertainment, Focus Features and Lakeshore Entertainment, which have produced a number of teen films.

Although Walt Disney produce a lot of teen films such as, 'Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen' 'High School Musical', they are all usually aimed at a much younger child, also they produce a lot of animated films, showing that their demographics are all mostly under twelve. Although they usually produce a lot of high school dramas similar to outs and establish the characters economic background in several, and how it contrast or influences their social life, they don't go as far as establishing the deeper story as we did. They would only scratch the surface, because of the target audience. For example in our opening we decided to add a scene due to some feedback on development of our story line. The scene is of one of our characters stealing from cancer research, and as Walt Disney's audience are quite young, I don't think this scene would of been appropriate. As well as the language in our film, it's quite urban with the occasional bad language, and I know that Walt Disney, don't use that kind of language in their films and it's highly censored.

26. Extension Activity- using motion to create a rough draft

We are using motion to create the production company  title credits, originally we wanted to create cut out of magazines to spell out Atlantis Alliance, but instead we created a template of writing in a notebook, which reflects the high school drama genre. The other credits will be created in final cut pro, over the opening sequence in the same typeface.

Blogging Health Check 2

I was given feedback taken from Blogging Health Check 2 was basically about, not using my time effectively. As i don't blog enough, and there are not enough individual blogs. After reading over what I can do improve such as;doing extra blogs like research and being creative with my ICT.
Since my feedback, I have tried to blog more regularly, including more individual blogs, and although I use emaze quite a lot because I find it easier, I have tried using both Prezzi and Powerpoint presentation, just so that there is more variety. I've also taken screen shots from our open sequences to use as examples for different blogs. In a few individual post I've tried to include a few gifs to make it more creative, but I kept it to a minimum, so there wasn't too much to focus on.
