Rough Cut feedback and Next Steps

Rough Cut Feedback

-The storyline isn't clear from what is shown.
-Too much camera movement.
-Some match cuts need work for example some bits jump
-Straighten up some shots
-We need to add in more bits to illustrate how poor Amy's character really is.

5th Filming Session

On Monday we wanted to finish our last scenes, we tried to get a variety of shots. We also took an establishing shot of the college.

Our 4th filming session

During the half term we decided to film some of out film opening. The took place outside the college as we took some shots of both out main characters walking into college. We also filmed the bus scene, which was of Zoe getting off and walking towards the college.

Reflection on Filming Session 3

Our third filming session, has been a lot better than our other two session, I feel has made a lot of progress so far, and shown that we've listened and acted in Marissa's feedback on; more varying shot types, and focusing on the head space in each shot.

Whilst filming, we came up with a few more ideas that could make our opening sequence better, and time effective. We decided to add a scene showing the popular girl character (Amy O'Brennan) leaving from her estate to go to college. I think our social-economic background that we tried to establish will be shown clearer to our audience, rather than our initial idea of using a voice over. Also because we had to change so many of our previous shots that we filmed during our second filming session, we decided to save time by filming on Wednesday rather than waiting till the weekend, this is so we would have something to edit and hand in for our rough cut. This meant that we had to change our original costume Ideas.

High Angle Shot

Over the Shoulder Shot

This scene was the hardest to shoot, because we had to film her coming down the stairs whilst still checking the head space. Every time we turned the camera to get the headspace right, it either came out shaky or the head space wasn't right. In the end we decided to shoot it a couple times, each time stopping the camera at each mark, and then edit it together.

Title credit inspiration

Our title sequence inspiration came from viewing different tean film movie sequences on You

Amys shots over the weekend

I had completed a series of shots. However, while reviewing it is evident that the lighting is bad in certain shots and also the framing could be improved

Research into institutions that do teen movies

Institutions that do teen movies

Both mainstream and independent companies create teen movies. The more successful teen moves are always done by mainstream institutions such as paramount pictures, columbia pictures and lionsgate. From research I've found out that my favourite and popular are produced and distributed by mainstream companies.

Another popular teen  movie.
Universal Pictures involved in the making of this film.
A very popular teen movie which is another
one of my favourites.
I found that Paramount Movies were involved
in the making of this film
One of my favourite teen movies
and a favourite of many I know.
I found out Warner Bros Pictures were involved in the
making of this film.
Disney was involved in the making of Princess
Diaries.

From these I've noticed that popular teen movies are created by mainstream production and distribution companies. Linking to this I noticed that they're successful due to the fact that the companies that are involved in the making of them are able to give them high budgets and so there chances of being successful are really high. One last thing I noticed is that most mainstream teen movies are American.

On the other hand a lot of teen movies that are British are created by more independent companies or created by independent companies but distributed to a more national audience such as BBC but not internationally. Here are a few of my favourite British teen movies and institutions that were involved in the making.

Revolver Entertainer was also involved with this film
so was gateway films
Revolver Entertainer was involved in the making
of this film. It was released
 into Cinemas nationallyand whenever shown
on tv it's usually shown on BBC 3.
A very popular movie (nationally).  Produced by Studio Canal,
Uk Film Council, Big Talk Pictures
and Film4 Productions

Title credits inspiration

The ideas we have for our title sequence mainly come from inspirations from other teen movies.
We love the style of this title sequence
We love the whole magazine cut out effect.
It looks fun, it can be related to modern teen lifestyle
which really suits our film idea

One idea we have is to put our credits over
animated pictures like what was done in Grease
The style of font used is appealing
and would suit our title sequence since it's based
on teen girls and that style of writting
could be seen as 'girly'.
The titles are also very the moving pictures.
This is something we want to do

10. What is target audience (completed)

What is target audience

Target audience is a specific group that a movie or advertisement  is aimed at/suitable to watch or buy the product. Imagine you see a toy advert presenting a doll with pink clothing you can straight away assume the target audience of that product is for little girls.

How do you define a target audience:This is done by establishing various aspects.

  • Where is the location of your target audience?
  • Male? Female? Both?
  • What is their average age?
  • What are their common interests?
  • Income range?
  • Common values they share?

If you answer these questions when planning the target audience of a movie then this will give you a clear idea of the target audience you are trying to reach.

Its useful for movies to have target audiences to help the attract an audience and make it appeal to them so they can make sure that their movie idea is being presented to the right people.
I think teen dramas appeal teenagers and young adults on average aged 12-20. Both males and females depending on the plot of the movie. Even the interests of teens will determine what teen dramas teens and young adults chose to watch.

Teen Movies and target audiences

Below are some screen shots that show information about the average person that watches the teen movies stated

Mean Girls

From this you can see on average females between
the ages 25-39 watch mean girls. The top regions are
London, North west and the South Coast

Kidulthood

This tells us mostly females watch aged between 18-24 watch kidulthood.
The top regions from this are London, East Anglia and Wales
Inbewteeners Movie

On average males between ages 18-24 watch this.
From regions North East, Yorkshire and Wales.
The pictures of the people shown are also an idea of what the average person 'looks like'.

Here is a survey I created and then broadcasted the link to people on my whatsapp to complete.
From the survey I found that most my contacts enjoy American teen dramas better and favourite teen drama films that were said were mean girls, not another teen movie, stomp the yard and many more

43. Reflection from first filming session

In this first session of filming, we filmed in Angel at a bus stop local to City And Islington College. We then also filmed at the college entrance gates and inside the college canteen. There were many set backs but overall it was quite successful, especially one specific issue we thought we would face and then didn't which we were really pleased about.

What went well:

Firstly we competed one of our scenes in the time given. It rained which was a major set back as it wasted a lot of time especially since we had to film outside. But luckily the rain stopped and we were able to film a whole scene with a variety of shots which was also another success.

Filming our shot of Zoe walking to college
after getting off the bus

The issue we thought we would face but overcame was getting permission to film on the bus. We had asked the driers permission and he allowed us to film. Since we were already set up it was done smoothly and not rushed but also managing not to hold up passengers on the bus. I'm very pleased it went well because It was one of our important ideas that we really
Filming our Character Zoe coming of the bus
wanted to make happen

Problems/issues we have:
Apart from the weather there are other issues that we have noticed which our to do with some of our shots filmed.
This has to be re done because it has too much head space
we want it to be more tighter

In this shot you can see the reflection of our camera woman
and so this also has to be re filmed
this was one of our shots that came out blurry.
When we re do it we will use a tripod instead.

Next Time we film:

We will have a back up in case the weather becomes a issue.
Also make sure all our characters needed for that day are in college so we can do the scene

Pictures Taken from our Second Filming Session

These are a few pictures take during our second filming session:

Our second filming session we decided to use a tripod instead, to avoid our shots being as shaky, so they will look more professional.

Reflection on our Second Filming Session

The second filming session went better than our first filming session, the weather wasn't bad other than it being slightly windy, so there weren't many setbacks other than, the tripod not being as steady as it should be, and a few breaks we took from filming, but we did try and manage our time effectively.
We did manage to take more range of shots than we did the first time, but we needed to film more shot types. for example instead of filming one part of the scene and cutting. We need to film one shot type like long shot, then mid shot. This is so there isn't so much background and head space.
I think this session was more of a success than the previous session as most of our shots were on a tripod. Also the clothing and props used for Jessica's representation was a success as well as the location for our film storyline.

What needs to be re-shot:

When we filmed this shot, we used a pan, but this one in particular was un steady making it slightly blurred, and less professional, as well as there was too much head space.

This shot when filmed came out less professional than we would of liked, as the tripod was a bit shaky, so when we re- take this shot and other future shots we need to make sure the tripod stays steady.

This shot of our main character Jessica crossing the road would of been a good shot but, there is too much head space, showing poor framing. The shot showed too much of the background location, when we re take this shot, we are going to use and establishing shot followed by a range of other shots, to avoid this problem.

Pictures Taken from our First Filming Session

These are a few pictures taken during our first filming session;

Although the rain was
a restriction for our first filming session, we were still able to film a few scenes. However we are hoping to get more filming done next week in our second filming session.
